Chapter 4 –The Hard Way

“I don’t know Lighty, I would much rather all of us just go in and kick some ass. You know, the old fashioned way.”

“Whisper needed to do this and in reality she has the best power to pull this off without anyone, including us getting hurt. This was the best way.”, said Lightning to the younger woman.

The two blonde heroines stood on a hill overlooking the Carnival site. Lightning was the older of the two and had kind of thought of herself as a big sister since meeting the younger Midnight.

“It’s getting cold”, thought Lightning. Not that it bothered her; she could just generate electricity when she felt herself getting cold and warm herself up.

“Ok, I’m heading down to get in position. I’ll be next to that funhouse on the side of the tent.”

“Midnight, be careful. Be aware of your surroundings at all times. This man is dangerous.”

“Right, I’ve never done this before. As if dealing with demented, overgrown puppies and all other kinds of street scum hasn’t prepared me already. Relax Lighty. I’ll see you down there.” She smiled at Lightning and disappeared.

“Ahh, to be 24 again.” Midnight was tough but she had been through a lot lately. The young girl had suffered a horrifying ordeal that Lightning wasn’t sure she had recovered from yet. She thought saving Dragon from the same beast had done plenty to help the young crimefighter deal but deep down she had only begun to recover.

Lightning stood in her blue spandex costume and looked down towards the site. Dragon and Whisper had already made contact and it appeared that Whisper had managed to subdue the crowd.

She tugged on her yellow boots to make sure they were snug and adjusted her yellow mask. Dragon stood alone now as Whisper entered the tent.

She thought about their plan and wondered about Whisper’s insistence that she go in alone at first. It was almost as if she owed them something, and that wasn’t true. Like Midnight she had wanted to simply go in with guns blazing and take out the Reverend that way. However after hearing Whisper’s plan it did make a lot of sense, the only thing that bothered her was that they had no idea of this enemy. All they knew was that one woman aged 20 to 40 had disappeared after attending the carnival every year.

She looked towards the funhouse and wondered exactly where Midnight had decided to set up shop. It didn’t matter of course, no one could see her.

Every year Reverend James Traveling Carnival came to Tempo City twice. Once in the spring and once in the fall. Every year some woman would disappear after attending it. Lightning knew the cops had investigated and found nothing at all each time. It had almost become a local urban legend now, but Lightning and the other heroines knew it was true.

Being a Detective allowed her to snoop around more then most people, and she had no doubt that he was responsible. The whole Police force knew it, they just had nothing.

No one had gone missing after the spring carnival; so far no one had been missing from the fall one either. Tonight it ended for the Reverend. After tonight no more women would go missing at his hands.

All of a sudden Dragon turned and raced into the tent, just as she did the assembled mob began to come out of their trance.

“Uh oh.”

She looked towards the funhouse; there was still no sign of Midnight. Immediately Lightning took flight and headed towards the tent speeding through the air.

As she neared she saw the black satiny skintight bodysuit of Midnight appear. She was already surrounded by what looked like a group of clowns and some midgets and was fighting them off as they circled her. She looked to have her hands full with the group.

As she turned and looked at the mob she noticed about 10 of them were laying on the floor. It looked like the work of Midnight. Suddenly a buzz whistled past her ear and she spun to the side to avoid becoming an easy target. She focused on a man with a rifle in the crowd and sped towards his position.

As she neared she fired a bolt at him that sent him sprawling backwards towards the tent. She then flew past Midnight and sent bolts towards the group surrounding her sending some of them scurrying for cover or leaving the unlucky ones flopping around on the dirt.

She landed next to Midnight. They now stood back to back.

“I had it all under control. Now you’ll say I owe you.”

“Just focus on them, I need to regain some power after that flight then we’ll take to the air and take them out from there.”

As each goon would attempt to approach they were met with an electric bolt from Lightning or a punch or kick from Midnight.

“We have to fight our way through and find Whisper and Dragon” muttered Lightning.

All of a sudden the crowd stopped attacking and held their position. An older man stepped forward until they could see him.

“The Reverend.”, said Lightning.

“The one and only Reverend James at your service ladies. What brings the two of you here?”

“Where are our friends?” asked Midnight.

“Ahhhh, Midnight. I see you’re back in the swing of things. Glad to see that mutt didn’t dampen your spirit too much. I heard you howled louder than he did!” The crowd laughed.

“Hey, geezer. Go fuck yourself.”

“Yes, about what I expected from you, you foul mouthed bimbo.”

He looked at the older blonde. “Lightning, the leader of this little band. You look powerful.” His eyes ran over her body starting at her boots and working their way up to her impressive breasts. She felt soiled just by the way he leered at her body.

“Release our friends, and admit your crimes and this can all end easier for all of you. You will be put out of business tonight Reverend.” answered the heroine.

“I really doubt that. Your friends will possibly find salvation tonight and you shall be blessed by the time the sun rises. You shall be saved.”

“What have you done with all the women you’ve abducted over the years you fiend?”

She stood and glared at the man.

“Those who seek salvation at my hands shall find it. They were lost souls in need of saving, much like your band of harlots. Enough of this idle chit chat. Get them!” ordered the Reverend and the mass attacked again.

Now the heroines used everything they had. Lightning attacked the mob with her bolts and also when necessary with her fists and feet. Midnight smashed anything that came near. The battle raged for a half hour. Bodies lay all over the dirt circling the two crimefighters.

“Just need one opening,” thought Lighting. She had been waiting for a moment to strike out at the Reverend with a bolt hoping that once he was down the fight would leave the mob. She looked towards the Preacher and noticed him staring towards the sky with his palms up, he seemed to be pleading.

“Finally” she thought as the chance she had waited for finally arrived.

She aimed at the Preacher’s position and thrust her fists forward sending a current towards him.

The bolt flew through the air directly towards the Reverend, as he saw it approach his eyes widened in fear. Suddenly a young man threw himself into the air blocking the path of the bolt. It struck him square in the chest and he burst into flames.

“NO!” screamed Lighting, but it was too late. The damage had been done, she had missed her chance.

Suddenly she felt something hit her. Then again and again. She looked up and saw a huge rain cloud above them. It seemed to hover right over the carnival blocking out the moon.

“Crap, Lighty it’s gonna rain. I’m almost shot. Can you fly?”

“No, there’s no way. I haven’t been able to regain my full capacity. We need to break through this crowd.”

Just as she finished speaking the heavens opened up and it poured down on them.

“Ha ha ha, I guess the fates are in our favor. Attack my followers, bring the sluts to their knees!!!!” the Reverend bellowed.

The mass seemed to be re-energized by the rain. They flung themselves at the two blondes with total disregard for their bodies. Finally someone got through and slammed the back of Lightning’s head with a pipe dropping her to her knees.

When she fell the floodgates opened. Midnight was battered from all sides by the mob. Lightning’s body was ran over into the mud and as she landed she felt the wetness overwhelm her and felt her power slide out of her body leaving her defenseless before the mob.

The heroines grunted as their bodies were kicked, punched, squeezed and fondled by everyone involved in the melee. Finally they were dragged through the mud and placed at the feet of the Preacher.

“You have fallen ladies. You will now learn how to seek forgiveness. You will bow before me.”

“Nev….never”, muttered the young one. Her spandex costume was mud covered and ripped open in many places. The Reverend reached down and held her face up towards his.

“You have a night ahead of you young one. You will seek forgiveness.”

A man dressed in black boots and wearing leopard skin shorts and a matching tank top appeared. He stopped in front of the Preacher. He had muscles on what seemed to be every inch of his body and was wide shouldered and stood about 6’3. He had a thick moustache and a shaved bald head. The Strong Man looked towards the Preacher and said, “Which one shall you choose to bless Reverend? The young tramp or the older one?”

The Preacher placed his hands underneath each of the blonde heroines chins and looked into their eyes.

“Youth or wisdom, which shall it be? What do I have a taste for? Which will be more delicious to sample?”

They each had 5 men holding them in place. He stared intensely down at their rain soaked and mud covered tight and firm bodies. Each of the women’s firm nipples pushed against the fabric of their spandex due to the cold rain.

“We’re not goods that can be sampled you bastard.”, answered Lightning.

“You are the leader and the most powerful. You shall be fun to taste my dear. Yes, you shall be a tasty morsel my sweet crimefighter.”

“You’re nothing but an old fool, an old pervert” said Midnight.

“I want to taste the power of Lightning. Take her to the podium and prepare her. You can take the young one home and do as you wish Strong Man. She needs to learn respect, she needs to be disciplined. I trust you shall take care of that. Remember though that we need her for transfer and there will be no permanent damage? I also want their masks to remain on. Do you understand?”

The Strong Man nodded. “Yes, and the green dressed whore, her power will not affect the boys?”

“No, they are immune to her powers. One must be spoken to, to be fully affected.”

“I understand my leader.”, answered the bald headed man.

“Many have suffered in this battle. Take the hardest hit and allow them the spoils of victory. Also have your wife set up the twins reward so that they only need to do minimal work. Make sure they understand that in the morning Z’s people will come and take possession.”

“What is he talking about? Who is Z?” Lightning wondered if the beating she had suffered was scrambling her thoughts.

The Strong Man and some clowns dragged the kicking and screaming body of Midnight through the mud towards the rear of the Carnival. She tried to fight back but her body was spent.

“Get …..get off of me you freaks! I’ll destroy everyone of you!”

The Reverend smiled as he stood up and addressed the crowd. “You have served me well tonight my people. Your sacrifices will never be forgotten and were for the greater good. You have proven to be believers once again. We shall tend to our wounds now and prepare to expand our power. The whores we defeated tonight will be blessed by many of us. Our power will never be stronger!”

A cheer went up from the crowd.

“Tonight we enjoy the spoils of victory!!!!”
