Emotional/Physical Nerve Transfer Collar
Overview
The E.P.N.T.C. system is similar in concept and operation to the Territorial Limit/Pain Inducement Collar (ICE Catalogue # SC-4) and the Mnemonic Mind Scrambler Collar (ICE Catalogue # MC-67). The Mnemonic Scrambler Collar, as shown bellow, has been successfully used against the heroine Tigra by Kraven the Hunter. (See Marvel Team Up number 67, March 1978).
The mnemonic scrambler used intense electromagnetic fields to reduce the electrical impulses in certain areas of the brain. Higher brain functions could in effect be turned off and the base instincts allowed to rule. In the above instance Tigra was reduced to her animal instincts and with a little training was made to follow Kraven's orders.
The E.P.N.T.C. system uses similar principles. The first collar is a scanning unit. It maps out the brain of the person wearing the collar and encodes the electrical impulses in a specified portion of that brain. The encoded information is then transmitted to a computer, processed and transmitted to the second collar. The second collar takes those impulses and transmits them into the brain of the person wearing the collar. This is done at power levels sufficient to stimulate electrical activity in the same regions of the brain. The result is that if the person wearing Collar 1 is struck, the person who is wearing Collar 2 will also feel pain.
The limitation of the system is the amount of resolution in the first collar. The brain is a very complex place. It is very hard to isolate specific feelings. This problem is reduced the more the collar is used as more and more of the brain is mapped out. But even after repeated use the collar can sometimes be overwhelmed by the complexity of the brain. The closest analogy is tuning in a weak station radio station while a stronger radio station is also transmitting. The stronger station can drown out the weaker station.
