Castle In The Sky - Part 3

This is the second 'chapter' of the story of the relationship between the wizard Vladi and the superheroine Supergirl. This story takes place two years after my story "When Vladi Met Kara".

As before, Supergirl is owned by DC and Warner Entertainment, while Vladi the Wizard is owned by me. Any other similarities between subjects are strictly coincidental, sort of. Usually. Maybe. Well, with the way that one can interact with various dimensions, one never knows who one will run into, and if those people are the same ones that we may of heard about from before. Right?

Chapter Nine - Vladi Goes To Jail

The pair stepped out of the dimensional doorway together, and once through Vladi released Kara's hand. She noted that they were in the exact spot as the last doorway, which had taken them from the Earth to the wizard's tower, though in a much more dramatic fashion in which she had crashed into him after flying into the doorway on this end before it closed. But this time, there was no drama, just the strange soft 'popping' noise behind them, as if a soap bubble had just burst. Supergirl could feel a slight rush around her with her super senses, as the air moved to fill the space that had been
moved by the appearance, then disappearance, of the magical doorway. That pleased her, because it also showed her that she was under the influence of the yellow star, Sol, and that her powers were assured. In the tower of the wizard, in that strange place between dimensions, she was worried about her powers. Here, on Earth, she knew that they were back to full.

"Thank you, Vladimire," Kara said as she stepped behind him, "Now, it is my turn to offer you a ride to our destination." With that, she took ahold of the mage, just under his arms. Since it was a short flight to the Sheriff's office, she decided to just hold his ribcage under his arms, so that he would not be alarmed by her wrapping her arms around him.

"Alright," Vladi started to answer, when he felt her hands pressing in and taking a firm hold of him under his arms. Suddenly he was off the ground and soaring into the sky as Supergirl took flight. It was certainly different than the last time he remembered her carrying him, some two years ago. Then, she had caught and cradled him in her arms as if one would a child. This time, she was holding him as one would carry a package. He frowned a bit at that thought as he looked down upon Daly City as he was carried towards the San Francisco County Sheriff's Office. It was certainly a different sort of view than he had of late, with him watching Supergirl through his varying scrying devices. With those, he was only able to watch her, as from above in the clouds, where there was no wind or sound or smells. Now, there was the feeling of the air around him as they sped through the air, the sound of traffic beneath them, and the smell of exhaust and the nearby sea and the throngs of humanity that they flew over. It made him feel that humanity was so small and insignificant beneath him, and wondered if that was something that the superheroine carrying him often felt when flying over these humans.

Vladi did not have long to consider such thoughts as soon they were dropping down from the sky to land in front of the Sheriff's office. Many people, both uniformed and not, were stopping what they were doing and taking in the sight of the beautiful blonde hair heroine with the form fitting blue and red costume holding a tall man in dark clothes. His own sensitive hearing took in many comments and questions that were asked of each other, mostly to wonder what he did to warrant being carried in person to the Sheriff. Many thought he was guilty of something, but some wondered about him not being restraints if that meant he was an important witness to something. A few remarked on how odd his clothing was, that while the dark clothing was well made, it was simple and yet without any apparent identifying labels. He almost asked what was meant by clothing labels when they landed gently before the doors and Kara released her firm hold from his ribcage, and came around him towards the door.

"Follow me," she said, and to keep others from thinking he was guilty of something, took his hand and led him into the law enforcement headquarters and towards the detectives section, pausing before the security door a moment until they heard a buzzing and a clicking of the door being unlocked for their entry.

Detective Tom Sanchez was on the phone when he looked up to see Supergirl walk into the detectives row with Vlad E. Meyer in tow. He immediately told who he was talking to that he would call them back as the pair went past him and into Lieutenant Morse's office. He hung up and then got out of his chair and hurried into the office as he was officially in charge of the Meyer case, and wasn't going to miss out on anything involving the hot Supergirl!

"Lieutenant Morse, this is Vladimire. He is here to turn himself in for questioning," Supergirl announced formally to the man behind the desk, who looked up from his paperwork to see his fairly small office now crowded with a sexy blonde superheroine, a stoic long haired man of indeterminate age who he saw matched the descriptions of Vlad E Meyer, and Tom Sanchez, who was in charge of the Meyer case.

"Thank you, Supergirl. The man behind you is Detective Tom Sanchez, and he will be handling the questioning, as he is formally in charge of the case," Morse responded as he took in the man with Supergirl. Tall, a fairly athletic build as he could tell from his frame under well made, but relatively simple dark shirt and pants. He was casually looking around the room with a pair of intensely light blue eyes that made the lieutenant think of a Husky or a Blue Heeler. He certainly did not seem nervous for being in the middle of a police station, standing next to the most famous citizen of San Francisco. "And, thank you, Mister Meyer, for coming in voluntarily to answer some questions that we have." The dark haired man then looked to him and Robert felt as if he was suddenly under a strange sort of intense scrutiny, as Vladimire's gaze locked him to his seat.

"Of course, Lew-ten-ant," Vladi answered, carefully sounding out the title that he saw on the door to the office and on a plaque on the front of the desk before him. "I could not turn down any request by Supergirl to assist our local law enforcement." He gave a slight bow of acknowledgement to the man sitting behind the desk, after getting his measure. A very exacting man who was a man of the letter of the law. His observation of the neatness of the office, as well as the many well kept books of California laws and municipal codes. There were not many personal pictures or artifacts that one would find in many other offices, but there were framed awards for efficiency and competence of duty.

"Vladimire, I have to go now. I can hear that there is an emergency that needs my immediate attention. I will check in as soon as I am able," Kara then said as she turned around and then quickly moved back the way that she came, the later statement given to Detective Sanchez who she caught had been eyeing her backside before she had quickly turned around. She rolled her eyes a bit as she made her way out of the building and then took to the sky, heading for the Bay towards the plume of smoke that was coming up from the laden fuel tanker.

Back at the Sheriff's office, Vladi felt suddenly abandoned by Supergirl's departure. He had believed that she would stay with him, to act as witness for him and his character. Now, he was alone with a pair of humans, who were definitely armed and believed him guilty of a number of crimes. Granted, he was responsible for those thefts, but he was sure that the law enforcement agents would appreciate the problems that one had with giving instructions to imps, and having them accurately carried out.

"Mister Meyer, if you would come with me, please," Detective Sanchez asked. It really wasn't a question, and everyone knew it. The mood in the room had changed with the departure of Supergirl, and the mage was well aware that he was in trouble. However, he wasn't very worried, as neither of the men had a weapon in hand, and that he knew that his skills were far beyond what most humans could comprehend, much less deal with.

"Certainly. I am here to help in any way I can," Vladi assured the pair, moving out of the room with the detectives motion of direction of movement. He could see that neither the lieutenant nor the detective had any signs of trust towards him that Kara had. Though, her trust was tempered with caution, there was none of that here. Looking around him as he moved through the office past a number of men and women in plains clothes working at desks or at tall metal boxes with files, he noted a few with uniforms of the county Sheriff's department, and made note of which ones appeared to be armed, as well as those that took note of him (though, most returned their attentions back to their work after he passed, with the exception of a few of the females, who took a bit longer before returning to their tasks at hand).

They slowed down as they turned down a hallway with a number of doors placed staggered yet close together. They stopped by one, and he noted that the doors were made of metal and had very heavy duty hinges and thick locks. Each had a small window of thick glass sandwiching a wire mesh, which he knew would be a cell for holding prisoners.

"It will be a couple of minutes before our interrogation room is open, Mister Meyer. So, I will have you sit in here, if you would. First, however, I will have to search you for weapons," Sanchez said. There were a couple of interrogation rooms, and half of them were open at the time, but he wanted to have Meyer sweat for a bit before he talked to him. He wanted him to know that having Supergirl escort him in person wasn't going to mean he got any special privileges, especially once she left.

Vladi nodded and turned around and placed his hands on the wall shoulder length apart. Though this was the first time that it had happened to him, he had seen it done before on television and on the street so was aware of how the process went. Still, it was an interesting and not a very pleasant experience as the detectives hands checked him very closely from neck to ankles. Of course, the man missed the hidden pockets since they were of mystical make that opened to pockets of inter-dimensional space, and thus were undetectable by those without the gift that knew what they were looking for.

The man stopped his frisk and then held out a hand and motioned to a man that stood behind a window at the end of the hall, and there was a buzz and a click of the door, which Sanchez then pulled open.

"Inside, please," the detective asked, though there was no question in his tone that this was not a request but a firm directive. Vladi nodded and stepped inside, and the thick door was shut behind him with a resounding thud and a very solid clicking of the lock. He looked at the cell, which had a metal bench along one side of the six foot square cell and nothing else. He could not even stretch out on it if he wanted to. He sat down in the direct middle of the bench and, placing his hands on his knees, waited.

Chapter Ten - The Imps Lose Their Master

In the mage's tower, the twin imps took a nap when the wizard and his superheroine companion left them via dimensional doorway. Several hours they woke up at the same exact time, then looked at each other, then looked around the chamber. It was empty, which wasn't all that unusual. They then sent their senses outward for their master, and discovered that he was no where near. Not in the tower, nor anywhere on the small pocket plane between the dimensions. While that was not completely unusual, they were concerned because of their suspiciousness of Supergirl. Not only because she was a creature of good, but because their master had seemed to be spending an awful lot of time observing her.

That gave the pair an idea, and they lifted off of the shelf and flapped their small bat wings and flew from the entry chamber into the wizard's divination room. While they were not able to use too many of the items here as they did not know the activations, they did know that Vladi often kept one of the scrying pools active to follow Supergirl continually.

The two flew over to the large table with the black waters that spread over it's surface and peered into the inky depths, to see a scene of the blonde superheroine flying over the Bay of San Francisco, waving to people on a large ship that was surrounded by several smaller boats. Everyone appeared to be cheering her. The twins could not see any sign of their master, however.

"Did she kill him?" Vonny asked his brother via telepathy. Actually, the way that they communicated was much more than just that. They shared thoughts and feelings and sensations and emotions. What one experienced, so did the other.

"Did she eat him?" Greg wondered as the two moved closer to the table, but didn't see any telltale bulge in the superheroine's flat muscular stomach that would indicate such a large meal.

"Perhaps she put him on that ship," Vonny started.

"Or, sunk him in the water of the bay," Greg finished.

The pair looked for any indication of either, but not seeing any clues only assumed the worst. That is because they thought along the lines that everyone else was like them. Thus, evil saw as evil did. As they would of killed their foe and eat them, they just naturally assumed that was the same on this particular Earth. That they had seen cannibals on that Earth, in this time-place as well as other time-places, both past and future, such a thought was not that far fetched. That one would kill someone and bury or sink or hide the body was actually quite common on that Earth they observed, as well as the other Earths. Indeed, any place there was intelligent creatures, there was murder in one form or another, for one reason or another.

"We must find him," Vonny started.

"Alive or dead, we need to find out for sure," Greg finished.

"But, would we not be free if he is dead?" The pair flew up a bit and looked towards each other. They did not feel anything different, so as far as they could tell the gaes between them and the wizard was still in place. But, the mage had 'died' and had been brought back to life through his magic before, so that was not unusual that their duty was still locked to the mage.

"No, we are honor bound to the wizard in life or death," Vonny stated to his brother, who nodded in agreement. The pair then looked down at the black liquid mirror-window through time and space to watch as Supergirl flew away from the ships and towards the city, their view following her over the cold waters.

"We will ask her," Vonny started.

"We will make her tell us," Greg corrected. They both grinned at each other, as that sounded like much more fun than just asking.

"But, she is powerful," Vonny said with a frown. They were imps and abnormally strong for their size, and mystical creatures of long life and magic. But, they had seen great feats of strength and power from Supergirl. They were more about mischief and pranks, not about violence and chaos like the greater demons, so the twins were hesitant about facing anyone of power. Especially such powers as they really know nothing about, such as Supergirl's.

"She is not to be underestimated," Greg worried. Now that they had set upon a course of action, they needed to figure out the best way to make the heroine cooperate with them to tell them where their master was. The pair looked at the other scrying devices, which were cold and dead to them, as they were created by the wizard and for the wizard. Else, they would of used one of them to discover where Vladi was. Tiny shoulders shrugged which caused them to bob in the air under their flapping wings. They enjoyed hunting, and they enjoyed tormenting creatures of good even more so.

"This will be fun," the twins spoke to each other at the same time. They turned away from the scrying table and flapped their way back towards the entry hall.

"But, she will fight," Vonny cautioned. The pair stopped in the hallway and looked at each other, their minds calculating until they came up with an idea.

"Master's wands!" the pair exclaimed to each other, then as one turned away from the entry chamber and flew towards the wizard's workroom. They flew in and separated and slowly flew around looking for one of the newest wands, which was created using a glowing green stone which the mage had collected when saving Supergirl from one of her foes. The rock of energy which had made her weak and powerless. A rock called kryptonite.

"Found it!" Greg exclaimed as he picked up the two foot long rod. In his hands it appeared like a spear, but of wood instead of metal, with mystical runes along it's length, and topped with a glowing green stone that had been carved into a many faceted jewel. They could feel the power of their master within it. They knew that they would not be able to do all things that the wand was designed to do, but as imps, they did have the ability to use magical creations, and wands, where some of the simplest of the wizard's creations.

"These will be good, too!" Vonny proclaimed as he held up a pair of orbs. They appeared to be formed of twine, and the imp could barely hold them in his little hands. But, his sharp little claws were able to grip the strands of mystical energy of the capture balls.

"Great idea!" Greg agreed and then the pair flew off towards the entry room. Once there, the pair cast a dimensional door spell, taught to them by their master so that they could go to and from the Earth without needing the mage to open up such a gateway for them. The pair then flapped through the glowing blue doorway, which collapsed behind them with a distinctive "popping" sound.

Chapter Eleven - The Hunt Begins

The twins exited their dimensional doorway in the same park area that Supergirl and Vladimire did not long before. The pair was immediately, as they always were on this time-place plan of Earth, inundated with a barrage of sounds and smells from all around them. It was almost distracting, but the supernatural seekers were able to fine tune their senses to those particular things that they were searching for in particular, such as a bloodhound locking onto the scent of a sock of an escaped convict.

The pair looked at each other, reading each others mind and intentions. They could sense both their master and the superheroine. Vladimire's personal pheromones were becoming lost in the avalanche of other scents that were being blown about from the masses and traffic and sea. They could also follow the faint traces of residual magic that came from his person, both from the doorway that he just went through, as well as his clothing he made using magic. Supergirl had a completely different scent to them, a combination of her alien uniqueness, her strong femininity, combined with her powerful goodness. This was the smell that they could most strongly detect of the two. It was the scent that the twins most strongly disliked.

"We can find the master," Greg says to his brother, taking in the scent of magic in the air that they knew came from the wizard. Though the smell was faint, it was very distinctive to the pair, who knew that it was enough for them to track.

"Yes, but what about the super girl?" Vonny asked as the two made themselves invisible before they could be seen by the planet/space-time/place inhabitants. Their questions to each other heard only by themselves, in their minds which were so alike that they were, for most intents and purposes, shared.

"First find master then decide what to do with her, yes?" Greg stated as he flapped his wings and started off along the scent. It was an aerial scent through the middle of the air, so the pair could tell that they had been flying towards their destination. They didn't detect any usage of a flying spell or of Vladi's favorite flying carpet, so they deduced that Supergirl had been the means of transportation, most probably carrying their master to her destination.

The pair flew for some time before they came up to the San Francisco Sheriff's Department building, as they were not as fast as Supergirl, though she had flown at a relatively slow pace since she was carrying a passenger. Invisible to the people that went in and out of the building, the two imps bobbed in mid-air before flitting into the building over the head of a pair of sheriff's deputies.
Vonny and Greg then flipped over and landed up on the ceiling, and hung upside down by usage of special magic to look around to see if they could spot either their master or the colorful girl of power.

It was harder for them to track inside the building as there were so many scents that came and went and percolated strongly in some spots and dissipated in others. The two could smell that Supergirl had been here many times, as some of her scents were not as fresh, but she had been her quite recently. As far Vladimire, they could smell him, but could not get a track on where he was.

"I cannot tell where Master has gone," Vonny communicated to his twin brother through their telepathic connection.

"You think he is still here?" Greg asked as he tried to discern how recent the scent of his master was, but there was too many scents from too many people that were in continual movement in and out of the building.

"I don't know. I think we will have to find the girl first, and then have her tell us where our master is," Vonny decided.

"Is she still in here or did she leave?"

"There are too many people here right now and I am not liking the odds that someone may get lucky and detect us," Vonny answered. The decision made mentally between them, they dropped from the ceiling and flipped over and flapped out of the main doors when a prosecuting attorney hurried out from his meeting with the detectives.

The imps then headed for The Bay, since they figured that was the body of water that Supergirl had been flying over when they had seen her in the scrying pool in the wizard's divination tower. Up in the air, it was much easier to track the super powered female, since there were no other scents to confuse them, beside the normal stink of the pollution of the cities below.

The pair flew back and forth, spending hours as they slowly tracked the scent of Supergirl, disregarding the older scents in favor of the more recent ones. They had found the ship that the superheroine had saved, but by the time they got there, the Kryptonian was long gone. Even the smaller fire fighting vessels were starting to leave after checking the ship to make sure that everything was safe. So, the two continued in their search in following her traces of flight.

Being magical creatures, they did not suffer the exhaustion that one would expect for such creatures flapping their bat type wings continually as they flew for miles this way and that. Occasionally they had to dodge a small airplane or a helicopter, since the human pilots could not see the invisible creatures, but Vonny and Greg were exceptionally nimble in the air. The two were getting a bit frustrated in their journey, since it was very obvious that Supergirl spent a lot of time in the air, and covered a vast amount of territory in her patrol over San Francisco and it's surroundings.

"We are getting no where," Greg told his brother in disgust as they flew over Oakland.

"We are doing this wrong, brother. We should be proactive, not reactive," Vonny answered, having an idea as to what they should actually be doing.

"So, instead of following her, we should do something for her to come to us," Greg finished, having shared his brothers strong thought process of the inspiration.

"Great! I am in the mood for some chaos and destruction!"

"Me, too! Let's go destroy something!"

With that the pair, cackling with evil glee and intent, flew down towards the unsuspecting people of Oakland.

Chapter Twelve - Bonsai Banzai!

The pair flew down over Oakland, and then curved to fly north over Lake Merritt, looking for a good place to cause mischief. On the north side of the lake, which was bordered by Grand Avenue which ran east to west along the north side, and Bellevue Avenue which curved to the south to frame a heavily wooded area which was home to Children's Fairyland USA in the northwest section of the park, and the Junior Center of Art and Science to the east of the forested parkland setting. The twin imps had a cornucopia of potential sites and targets for their evil intentions.

But, it was the park of the Golden Gate Bonsai Collection that really attracted their attention. Though the sun was starting to head down in the west as the day was getting close to it's end, there was still many people in the park. The parking along Bellevue was mostly filled with the cars of many a tourist, while school buses were loading up students to return to their schools from the Junior Center.

It was, as it was said, a target rich environment, and the twins were eager to start sowing the seeds of chaos.

Vonny headed towards the middle of the gardens, as Greg flapped over towards the Fairyland. They were, of course, unseen by the humans below them. In a few moments, strange things began to happen. Trash cans could suddenly erupt their garbage all over the nearest pedestrians, and a bus suddenly lost it's steering and plowed into a number of parked cars. No one was injured in either incident, but it was only the beginning of the imp's mischief.

People started to get worried when the bus that was full of children could not open it's doors or windows, while it's engine refused to turn off and started to increase it's RPMs, threatening to go into gear and plow into more vehicles. People started to call out for the owners of the nearby cars to move them away as quickly as possible. But, it was hard to find a few drivers in the crowds of hundreds of people.

In the bonsai garden, the small intricately manicured trees started to shift and move in the soil, as Vonny started to cast spells of plant animation on the trees one after another. At first people looked at them in wonder, but then their wonder turned to worry as more and more of the trees started to shake and quiver, and many people started to believe that they were in the midst of an earthquake.
While the people of California were accustomed to earthquakes and such did not overly worry them, they still started to gather up their kids and head towards their vehicles.

Soon, words of caution turned to yells of surprise as the small bonsai trees started to grow, and their highly pruned branches started to move outwards to sway and swat at people. This turned the orderly withdraw to the parking lots into a panicky rout, as a small handful of tourists running and yelling snowballed into a huge wave of fleeing and screaming human lemmings.

This wave broke three ways, to the east and west and south towards the various parking areas. Greg caught the group that was moving east to the area of the Children's Fairyland and started to cause pieces of playground equipment to fail. Slides and swing sets and monkey bars began to fall apart, dropping kids to the ground in very clumsy clumps. Fortunately, there was nothing worse than a sprained ankle or broken wrist, but the sudden clamoring of dozens of crying children did nothing to stop the fear that a major earthquake was in the works. Concerned parents quickly turned to alarmed parents as the group of screaming men and women from the bonsai gardens scooped up these people and increased the mass of panicking people who were rushing to get out of the area as fast as possible.

As Vonny flew around the garden park, animating more and more of the trees, cars and pickups and station wagons started to pull out onto Bellevue Avenue willy nilly, with no one waiting for anyone, nor paying any attention to the vehicles around them or on the road. No one was paying attention to traffic rules as they were only concerned about themselves, and within minutes scores of accidents had snarled the parking lots and roadways to first a crawl, and then to a complete stand still, with people yelling and screaming at each other as they tried to be heard over blaring horns to get out of the way of their escape.

The phone lines from the buildings of the Children's Fairyland and the Art and Science center, combined with calls from the bonsai garden soon overwhelmed the switchboards as every one with a phone started to dial the local police or fire station. A few calls did make it through, and the police and fire departments started to respond towards the north side of Lake Merritt as per their earthquake SOPs.

However, their radios started to fill the airwaves with concern as they found themselves stuck in traffic, unable to go further south than Grand Avenue because of the traffic snarls on Bellevue Avenue. Fire crews grabbed axes and first aid kits and left their fire trucks to assist those involved in accidents, while police abandoned their cars to run into the park to help with crowd control, needing to stop the mob of panic and to turn it to a more manageable crowd for evacuation. However, their own professionalism was shaken when they came upon a wild forest of what had before been well groomed and carefully placed bonsai trees, which were now dozens of feet tall and had long branches that were moving all by themselves, almost as if they had a purpose.

Soon shots were wildly fired as several cops were grabbed and yanked off their feet by animated branches. However, the bullets did nothing more then to dig into the wood of the trees that shook and squeezed the officers. Firemen with axes were much more efficient as they left the cars to run to the rescue of the men and women in blue, animated branches hacked through to drop to the ground and open up to free their captives.

Calls soon were overloading the lines into the radio and TV stations, and soon a certain Linda Lee heard about the strange things happening by Merritt Lake, with communications lost at the Children's Fairyland, Junior Center of Arts and Science, and the Golden Gate Bonsai Collection. Having just finished telling her supervisor about Supergirl's saving of the oil transport ship in The Bay, she then said that she was heading to the bonsai gardens when the news of strange things happening there started to roll in.

In less than a minute, a streak of red and blue was rocketing into the sky and soaring over the San Francisco Bay to the west and Oakland. Brilliant blue eyes sought out the landmark of Lake Merritt and super vision zoomed in towards the north shore of the lake, and Supergirl was shocked to see how big of a mess there actually was, with Bellevue completely gridlocked with vehicles going every which way, and often into each other. As she closed, she heard a loud explosion, and looked to the north of the Children's Fairyland to see one of the firetrucks engulfed in flames, unaware that Greg the Imp had just played a great joke on the fire department by having one of their fire trucks catch fire.

But, it was the huge mass of waving vegetation in the middle of the parkland that really caught her attention. Trees, many no larger than three feet tall were now ten times that size or larger, and were moving on their own as if caught in the middle of an earthquake. She saw firemen helping cops to escape clutching limbs with fire axes, as the trees seemed to be moving to surround a pocket of a dozen of the uniformed rescuers, who were now in a drastic need of rescuing themselves.

Kara wasted no time and swooped towards the firemen, and twin lances of brilliant red shot from blue eyes to slice through branches like hot knives through soft butter, freeing the caught officers to drop to the ground. They stumbled a bit as the once smooth and manicured grounds was now torn and buckled by the trees now massive root structures moving under the ground and tearing through it as they started to move against the firemen and cops.

"Come on, follow me!" Supergirl told the men as she landed beside them, and then took in a big lungful of air, and then blew it against the trees that started to reach again for them, causing a number of them to uproot and tumble back and away, opening up a path for them to hurry through to get finally to the western north-south portion of Bellevue Avenue.

"Take care of the people here, stay out of the park!" She then directed the emergency responders as the lifted off into the air again, moving rapidly from place to place to use her heat vision and super breath to free people caught within the park, carrying people two at a time to deposit onto the roadway before moving back again, marveling at how much the vegetation there has grown and gotten out of control. She knew that someone or something was behind this, but for the moment she was in rescue mode and couldn't look for those responsible for all this chaos... yet!
