When Vladi Met Kara

by Vladi the Wizard

Supergirl owned by DC Comics, and Warner. Vladi owned by moi... of course. This is a story about what happened when Harry met Sally.... er, I mean, when the wizard met the superheroine, that led to one of the greatest ... ahhh... love stories (yeah... that's the ticket!) in our genre! Of course, they are from two different worlds, quite literally. Of course, in the story telling I am going to use terms and words and measurements (etc) that you are all familiar with, and not what the various characters would use/say/think, as a way to make things easier for all of use "in the translation". Also, the time frame that I will be using is when I first became aware of Supergirl, which was with Adventure #400, which was published wayyyy back in 1972! (Yup, she gave birth to the pervy old wizard back when he was 11 years old!) I am also putting this in the time frame when Linda Danvers left Stanhope College and moved to San Francisco. And, of course, this is taking place upon a world not exactly our own. I hope you enjoy!

Chapter One - The Catch

"AAAAAAaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh," the man screamed as he fell. He couldn't help it. It was quite a natural sort of thing to do. One moment he was stepping through a doorway of spinning mystical energies, and the next moment he was falling into the middle of nothing but clouds. He stopped screaming as he got over his sudden start and took note of where he was. It was very hard to tell as he was surrounded by clouds, but one thing he knew was that it was cold. Very cold. Of course, being of a stock that was half elf and half human, temperature variances did not bother him the same way it would if he was of pure human stock. But, at the same time, he was more aware of the coldness, and it was bothering him more than it would if he was of pure elven stock. He took a big whiff of the air as he tumbled through the cold clear air. It was obviously during the daylight hours, but the air smelled different. It was not a world that he was accustomed to, and for that he was thankful. That meant that the spell to transport him to a new time/place/world worked!

Just when he was starting to wonder if magic worked on this world that he would soon be crashing into, he saw the clouds around him part, and the ground below him became much more apparent to him. Well, it was pretty, he decided as he examined the various trees in their many colors, upon rolling hills, covered with lush green grasses, and divided by blue flowing rivers. He wondered what the place was called, and whether there was intelligent life here that would find his dashed and broken body.

Above the clouds, a wingless goddess flew. Long blonde hair whipped behind her as she enjoyed the sun's energy as bathed within it's healing and energizing rays. The yellow sun giving her powers above and far beyond those who also lived upon this planet Earth, with the exception of her elder cousin Kal-El, who was also called Superman by the inhabitants of this world. At this altitude that she flew, there was not much oxygen to breath, and it was very cold, but neither of which bothered her, as she could fly for a very very long time while holding her breath, and temperature extremes rarely even bothered her.

While enjoying the flight it was then that she heard the strange 'popping' sound. Her super-hearing was very acute, of course, but due to the height that she was flying and the noise of the wind passing around her, she almost missed it. However, there was no missing the scream that occurred immediately after that odd, faint sound. She quickly went into a rotating hover and searched about her to determine where the screaming was coming from, but the clouds made it difficult to do so because of their sound distorting properties. And, just as she was starting to determine the direction the scream was coming from, the screaming stopped.

Supergirl immediately dove towards the ground many thousands of feet below her, wanting to get below the cloud layer as soon as possible, to find the screamer if not by sound, then at least by sight. In a flash she was under the clouds and slowed down to quickly do a scan around her to spot anything falling from the sky. Since there was no longer any screaming, she took it to mean that the person must of passed out, either from shock, or the lack of oxygen at this altitude, or a combination of both.

She then caught a movement in the corner of her eye, and her gaze whipped around, and she focused in on the moving object. It was a man. And, he had his arms and legs spread apart as he was falling, his long black hair whipping up behind him. She thought it odd for a man to fall unconscious like that when he looked over and saw her. She also thought it was odd for him to be wearing a bath robe at twenty thousand feet, but then, everything about this encounter was screaming 'odd' to her.

The wizard named Vladimier was shocked by the sight that he took in. It wasn't that it was because she was flying, because as a wizard he was used to seeing things that were normally "unexplained" to the uninitiated. And, while he wasn't one to put too much credence in the claims of gods and the supernatural since they were normally just misidentified mystical creatures, what he just observed was enough to make his heart stop for a moment or twenty. She was absolutely stunning! A goddess in the flesh in the air before him. He saw that she was a young human (he guessed) in her second decade who was wearing a rather form fitting blue dress, which had an odd symbol of gold and red on her chest. Her hands were incased in red gloves which came up to her forearms, and her extremely long legs were sheathed in brilliantly red boots which came to her mid-thigh, and a golden belt rested against sleek hips under a amazingly thin waist. What he thought was at first red wings, he soon realized as actually a red cape that flowed behind her as she floated in the air looking at him. Her long blonde hair looked like spun gold as it framed her head and face, whipped about by the wind to frame her awe inspiring beauty.

But after all that stunning beauty that she blazed about her with, the thing that really drew him to her, was her eyes. A deep azure blue which seemed to glow with a strange power deep within her. Some way, he knew that she was unique upon this world, and that she was the most beautiful creature he had seen in centuries. If ever! He wondered how she was flying, as she did not have the wings that many of the faery folk that he was accustomed to had to fly. The wizard now was more intent on studying this strange and wonderful apparition than with worrying about his physical safety, wondering now if those rumors of "angels" were actually true. It wouldn't be the first time that he had discovered things to be true which many had claimed to be myth or legend. But then, that what his purpose in life always was, he felt. To discover knowledge. Especially such knowledge that most people would think as being ridiculous or worthless. He knew that he may die (which would not be the first time, which was why he had contingency spells cast upon himself to resurrect himself in cases of death), but if he did, it would be while gazing upon utter perfection.

Kara paused a moment in mid-flight as she took in the man's amazing eyes with her super vision. They were blue, but not like hers. No, his eyes were like the ice on finds on an iceberg that has been floating and worn by the oceans currents, but that also seemed to burn with a strange fire. But the thing that really drew her to them was that the pupils seemed to be in a constant state of flux. One moment they seemed to be the normal round shape, and then the next moment they seemed to be in the shape of thin squished ovals, like a cat. The pupils were also a very deep black that seemed like molten coal, yet had a sparkling to them as if full of tiny stars that rippled along the edges of his pupils when they changed shape. It was very disconcerting to her, and the looked to the rest to him.

The falling man looked to be in his mid to late thirties, and of good shape, from what she was able to discern from the black robe that he was wearing that was fluttering about him. He was taller than average for the humans of this planet, but not remarkably so. He had long straight raven black hair that streamed as he fell, and his sharp features were smoothed with a short goatee and a neat mustache. Overall, she was a bit taken aback by the strange calm that he had about him. She found it a bit eerie, that seemed to be bordering on the edge of insanity, for a lack of a better word for her to use. A man that was falling thousands of feet to his death that wasn't screaming did seem insane (though he did scream earlier, but not now? Why not?). It had to be shock. Yes, that was it. But, the way he looked at her, with intelligence and a strange sort confidence that she cannot recall seeing before, took her aback as much as his amazing eyes did.

"Whoofffffff," he breathed out a half a heartbeat later as she had him in her arms. One moment she was many hundreds of feet away from him, and the next moment she was holding him in her arms, and he was no longer falling, but flying. She gave him a dazzling smile and said something to him, but even though it was hard to hear because of the wind whipping past them, he couldn't understand a word that she was saying. Now that she held him, she could get a better look at him, and saw that his very pale eyes were slightly almond in shape, and while not looking distinctly oriental, he certainly did have an middle-asian look to him, and she placed him as perhaps coming from the region of the Russian Caucuses.

"I got you! You are safe now," Kara said to the man in her most reassuring and soothing voice, as she cradled him in her arms. His gaze went wide in surprise with just how fast she got to him, and then went to the ground below, then back to her face. His brow furrowed a bit as his eyes went to her lips, and she wondered at first if he couldn't hear her due to the height that they were at and the speed that she was flying, so she slowed her pace a bit, and went into a slight dive to get into a warmer and more breathable atmosphere. When low enough into the warmer air, she slowed down and got a better look at the person that she had saved and almost dropped him.

"You're not... human, are you?" Supergirl asked in a soft tone, that was more for herself than for the ears of the man that she was carrying, which were pointed. Not obviously so where they were sticking up and out like often portrayed with demons, but mostly hidden by his long jet black hair. But, with the way that the wind was tussling his hair, it didn't take long for her eyes to discern the unusual. The appearance of his ears only seemed to confirm the strangeness that she witnessed with his eyes as she cradled the man in her arms. The man looked at her, obviously concerned by the tone of her voice and the surprise within, and she gasped inwardly as her own gaze was captured by the man's amazing eyes. There was a deep intelligence to them, as well as a strange depth of mystery of who, or what, he actually was. But, she also sensed that this was a man of great power, though she did not have any immediate clue as to what gave her that idea.

"Who are you? Where did you come from," the beautiful superheroine asked the man she held, but it didn't take her long to realize that he was hearing her just fine, but that he just wasn't understanding her words. So she tried a number of different languages to see if he would respond to any of them. But, he only shook his head as she tried Italian, then Russian, then Greek, then Slavic with him, trying different  languages based upon his apparent ethnic physical traits. She realized that trying to converse with him in Earthly tongues was probably a lost cause, but she did not know what else to do. So, she tried her best to communicate with him as she kept him safe in her arms as she descended towards the ground of her adopted city, San Francisco.

"I cannot understand you," he said to her again and again, to answer the question that she was asking him. Though she spoke to him in a different language each time, he was able to tell that she was asking him the same question, only in different tongues. And though he had been to countless civilizations which spoke countless languages in the countless time/space places that he had traveled to, none of the words she said did he recognize. Thus, he already knew several things about this world that he had found himself upon, or more accurately, above. The women were amazingly beautiful and flew, and that there were enough people to have a number of different languages.

She imagined that it may be him saying that he didn't understand what she was saying, but she did not recognize the language that he was speaking. It was a lovely tongue to her ears, which had heard so many different languages of Earth, but so far there was no language that they both understood which she could use to communicate with him. She so wanted to know where he had come from. She did not detect any aircraft nearby that he could of came from. It was if he had simply materialized out of thin air. And, the more that she considered his otherworldly appearance, she wondered if that is not exactly what had just happened with him.

Vladimire briefly wondered about casting a spell of understanding upon himself, but he was still cautious about performing any magic until he understood where he was, and the way that magic would perform on this world. Perhaps such a spell would backfire like his dimensional doorway spell did, so he decided to not try to perform any magic until he had a time to do some more research upon this time/place/plane of existence that he found himself upon.

He found it hard to tear his eyes from the beautiful face of the woman that carried him, but he finally did to look down towards the ground which they were rapidly approaching. He saw that they were approaching a city, but one that was larger than he had ever seen before. It appeared to be made of stone and metal, and seemed to be growing larger and larger the closer they came to it. He saw other flying things, but as he concentrated he could see that they were metallic constructs, some with wings like birds, while others seemed to be giant dragonfly type of constructs with rapidly beating wings. His eyes were drawn down to what he took to be roads, but they were filled with more metallic things that were scurrying to and fro, but in orderly lines that streamed past each other in seemingly polite function. The city was bordering a great water, upon which many more strange crafts plied upon, many going under a spectacular golden hued bridge that was greater than he had ever seen before. What matter of beings walked this world, he wondered as he marveled at the height of the buildings that were built upon many hills of the land that they flew down towards.

Supergirl could feel the man's heart rate through her hold upon his body, and she could tell that he was not afraid by it's steady and strong regularity. But, he was soon twisting around in her arms that she was momentarily afraid that he would pull himself from her grasp as he turned about this way and that as he took in the city below them. When he did turn his head so that she could see his face before it was looking away again, she could see a look of absolute joy upon his handsome features that gave him a childlike look of wonder that she found to be totally endearing to her. She laughed at his joy, which he quickly shared with her after a quick glance at her, before he looked back and ahead of them as she flew down towards the city, no longer trying to talk to the man, but to just share this brief moment of happiness that he was feeling from their shared flight.

Chapter Two - The Hills of San Francisco

Vladimire did not know why this flying goddess was bringing him to this huge city, but he was glad that she was. It was marvelous. It was a giant city that was mostly upon a peninsula of land that was pushing itself into the large body of water that the horizon fell into. On the other side was a large bay, where many boats of varying sizes moved to and fro. He turned as much as he could in the blonde's grasp to take in as much as he could from this bird's eye view, and joined in with the girl's angelic laugh as she slowed her descent so that he could take in more of the city that grew and grew to fill his marveling gaze.

As they slowed and got lower, his sensitive ears started to bring in the sounds of the world around him to his attention. No longer was he just hearing the wind of their flight, but now a growing number of different sounds from below them, from the waters to the streets. He was now able to make out people walking below him, and then noticed that these people were going in and out of the metal conveyances which then sped them up and down those roads. He quickly turned about and looked back over the flying girl's shoulder and then around them in the air, but could not see anyone that was like the girl that was carrying him. The flying things that he had seen appeared to be like those conveyances on the ground, but were for air transport to carry people inside. Only this girl, this angel, this goddess appeared to have the sole power of flight that no one else shared. At least he couldn't imagine why someone would not use such a power of flight that this girl holding him had. Why put them into such strange metal things when you could soar free like a bird, but without wings. Sure, he had known flight in a number of ways, but it was always by use of a spell or by use of a magical artifact. Was this girl using magic?

Supergirl looked at her ward when he suddenly stopped laughing, and was looking at her with a strange expression. His right arm tightened over her shoulder and he could feel his finger tips fanning along her ribs, pressing in and tapping against her in a strange manner. It was almost like what people do when keeping a beat to music, but there was no music playing that her super hearing could detect. Was he trying to communicate something to her, or trying to discern something about her?

Suddenly she heard something that was not music to her ears. Gunfire! She went into a quick hover and did a slow spin to determine where the shots where coming from, when she spotted a number of gunmen coming out of a bank. She quickly saw that there were five of them, two outside the bank and three still inside the bank. The two outside had automatic weapons, which they were using to excellent effect to pin a pair of police officers behind their squad car that was being turned into Swiss cheese by their powerful weapons.

"This is a job for SUPERGIRL!" Vladi heard the girl state with determination, and then suddenly felt him in a controlled fall as the blue clad heroine swooped down to the street and then quickly, yet gently, deposited him on his feet on the sidewalk before flying in a blue blur towards the bank. The dark clad mage ignored the people who turned to gawk at him, all babbling in that strange language that he heard her speak to him with originally after catching him, and figured that would be the common tongue of this particular land. But, he paid them no heed as he stepped out into the wide street, which was made of a smooth dark grey rock, to watch the blonde girl soar down the street towards a pair of men that were using loud metal rods to keep a pair of blue clad men hiding behind their metal conveyance. He could see that conveyance was being punctured by invisible knives that the strange metal rods seemed to be firing with great noise and some fire coming from their ends. The men with the blue uniforms had odd weapons themselves, but were smaller rods which they held in their hands as opposed to the larger ones held in two hands by their opponents. Every now and then they would fire their rods at the two men in black but nothing seemed to phase the two.

He understood war, and that this was a battle, but it was with weapons that he was very unfamiliar with. Also, he did not know the sides involved her, though he wondered if the blue clad angel was on the side of the two in blue that were pinned behind the wheeled conveyance. He stepped out more, hearing the alarm in the voices behind him but ignoring them as he saw the girl in blue suddenly appear between the men in blue and the men in black. He could see that the two in blue were suddenly relieved by her appearance, while those in black took a number of steps back as if they were suddenly in great fear. They then fired their weapons at the flying angel!

"Noooo!!" he called out suddenly, having seen what those rods could do to metal, and afraid that her spectacular body would be instantly rended into bloody flesh. But, that didn't happen much to his amazement. Instead, he could see small tiny pieces of metal bouncing off the girl's chest and torso. He quickly determined that the rods shot out these metal pieces which could punch through metal but only bounced off her body. His mouth dropped open as he then saw what appeared to be fire shooting in thin narrow lines from her eyes, which caused one and then the other of the rods that the men were holding to glow a blazing red, to be immediately dropped by the men in black, who howled and shook their hands in great pain. There was a sudden whirlwind of red and blue, and then the girl was standing over the prone bodies of the two men in black beside the men in blue, who quickly leapt upon the black clad men and shackled their hands behind their back.

Vladi was amazed at this, as all this action took place in the span of six heartbeats. This strange flying girl was amazingly fast, and appeared to be impervious to injury. She could also shoot out rays of fire from her eyes. The more he watched, the more he became convinced that she was a singular oddity of this world that he found himself upon.

He moved closer, but was still a distance away from the building that Supergirl stood before, but his sensitive eyes and ears were able to pick out details from a distance that most would not be able to discern with any great accuracy. He heard a shouting from within the building, which was followed by more gunfire, this time the glass of the doors blowing outwards under the onslaught of the bullets. Again, there was a blur of blue and red as the superheroine flew into the bank, and in a moment their was the sound of grunts heard from within and the shots stopped. An instant later, three more men in black joined the other two on the ground by the men in blue, who quickly secured their prisoners with strips of white material.

Vladimire shook his head in amazement as the crowds in the street erupted in cheers, and the girl in red and blue basked in the glory of their adoration. A goddess indeed, he thought, as he looked from face to face surrounding him. They all had forgotten the stranger in their midst and were only now having eyes for Supergirl, who after a few minutes of the cheering, turned to talk to the men in blue, who he saw now were wearing some sort of metal badges of office upon their breasts. He wondered then if that yellow and red 'S' upon the girl's chest was a badge of her office, perhaps standing for that word that he heard herself state once, and what everyone now had upon their lips... Supergirl!

Chapter Three - The Wizard and Earth Shakes Hands

It was at that moment that the wizard discovered the magic of the planet. It was always different on each plane that he found himself upon. Sometimes it was just a little tingling of faint magic that he detected that stroked across his feet, while other times it was the more intense sensation of a feel of cold (or warm) flow of magic flowing around him. Some instances were pleasant, and some connections with the magic of the world he found himself on were not so enjoyable. But, never had Vladimire have the magic of a world grab ahold of him, lift him up into the air, and then dash him back down to the ground in such a violent fashion.

He was unaware of his body and what it was going through as the magic of the Earth connected to him, and he connected to it. All he was aware of at that brief moment of time that extended through infinity was the immense power that flowed into him from the world's past, present and future. He was aware of the planets birth, and it's formation, and the creation of it's life forces that depended upon it that flew in the air, swam in it's waters, or strode upon it's lands. He saw the magic users before him, the life and deaths of the magical creatures, and the stories of the legends which he learned about from the lips of the gods and goddesses who once ruled the Earth with mighty powers. He saw the rise of great empires which soon in a blink of an eye turned to stagnation of complacency and ignorance before dying in the ignominious despair of myth. He listened to the stories of the poets and philosophers, who spoke of great kings and valiant warriors who created great dynasties with sword and sorcery. And, he saw the tears of the prophets, who cried for a day when such giants would once again walk the Earth, but wept when such giants were perversions of nature, or aliens from other times and worlds. The world called out to him in the song of the lei lines which whipped and wrapped around the planet that had in centuries past kept the populace afraid and respectful of the land upon they walked, because that her caretakers would punish those who would destroy her with greed and avarice for her natural riches. He felt the horror and terror of the planet that has felt so defenseless for so many eons as the wonder of magic has been discounted and dismissed. He felt the Earth look into his own soul as the possibility of one that it could use to bring such wonderment of magic back to those that fell out of her favor.

To those watching, it looked like the man in the black robe had leapt up into the air and then thrown himself down again, before going into a seizure. Such a sight was not uncommon, and many after looking briefly at him, turned away and left the area, now that the excitement of Supergirl capturing the bank robbers had left off. But, the shock upon the wizard and his system did not go unseen by his savior, Supergirl, who in a blink of an eye had left the uniformed officers with the bank robbers and was cradling the strange pointy eared man in her arms once again. She knew that she had to be careful with him as it would be easy to break his bones while he convulsed in his seizure as if she tried to restrain him, so she only made sure that the area was clear around him.

People were very used to their superheroine helping others, even those with relatively minor medical emergencies. That was just the way that she was, their beautiful heroine of mercy. They smiled and nodded and moved away to let her take care of the man in the black robe, no one really taking note of his strange ears under his long jet black hair. Even his dress was not that remarkable, being that the people of San Francisco were used to seeing many people dressing in different manner and modes. The strange and the unusual was common place in The City By The Bay.

Kara held the man as gently as she could, and called out to the officers down the street to call 911 for an ambulance. She saw one of the men bring up his portable radio to his mouth and heard him calling her request to his dispatch. It was then that the man spasmed and then his body locked up and his back arched as his shaking suddenly stopped and his body now threatened to break itself in two. And then, just as suddenly as that started, it stopped, and he settled limply into her lap, and she felt his breath leave his lips, and then his heart stopped beating.

"No... no... no.... ," Supergirl quickly muttered with surprise and shock, as she quickly shifted herself to her knees so that the man was laying on the sidewalk on his back before her. She put her hand to his chest and concentrated her hearing, but her senses confirmed that the man was no longer breathing and his heart was no longer beating. She knew CPR from the classes that she took, but also knew that her powers and strengths made such things dangerous because it would be all to easy for her to crush the man's ribcage into his heart, or overly inflate his lungs with her breath to explode them from within.

"Hurry, he stopped breathing!" she then shouted to the police officer down the block from her, and then turned back to the man in black as he lay peacefully before her. She remembered a trick that her cousin Kal-El had taught her about generating electricity by rubbing her hands together at a certain frequency, and immediately started to do that, and within a few seconds had a good charge of static electricity built around her hands. She then carefully positioned her right hand over his chest then her left hand at his side at his ribcage and then briefly touched them to the man.

There was an explosion of energy that pulsed out from the man the instant that she touched him. Again his body arched up as his heels and his head snapped down into the sidewalk, causing cracks to ripple out from where his body hit the pavement. Supergirl's eyes grew wide and she rocked back upon her heels at the force of the blast of energy, as it was way more than what she had expected, and much stronger than what the amount of energy that she created should of caused. The blast knocked people off their feet and blew out nearby windows and set off car alarms for a block. The man then gasped in a huge gulp of air, and then he fell back down to the ground, and the blonde superheroine immediately leaned forwards over him again, her right hand going again to his chest where she felt his heart beating once again, as people got up and ran screaming from the area, thinking that the bank robbers had set off a bomb inside the bank they had just robbed.

Supergirl was momentarily taken aback but the intense explosion of energy and worried for the panic stricken people momentarily, but soon sighed in relief to see that the man was alive once again. However, her relief was immediately replaced by a gasp of surprise as the man's eyes snapped open, causing her to forget all about the chaos around her. No longer were the eyes the intensive ice blue with the sensational black irises, but now they were glowing orbs of molten silver. There were strange and alien and very disconcerting to her, and she could not tear her eyes away from them. She was reminded of the shiny chrome on high end cars, but there was no reflection from them, only a strange flowing type of movement within them, like the churning of a mountain spring.

Vladi was woken up quite suddenly from his tranquil and peaceful meditation with the Earth, and pulled from the soothing arms of the magic of the planet by a strong electrical jolt to his system. One moment he was floating in the warmth and comfort of the Gaia, and the next he felt himself laying upon cold hard pavement with pains in the back of his head and heels. He opened his eyes, and discovered that the planet had given him a new way of seeing things, so that he could see exactly how things were, and not just how things seemed to be.

First thing he saw was the goddess, who he saw now was not a supernatural being, but a being of super abilities. He could see power flowing around her and through her, which he saw came from the star of which this planet orbited. He could see into her body to how her nerves were reacting to the stimuli of her surroundings, and to him, and could see how her powerful muscles were quivering just under the surface of her skin which was just under the fabric of her clothes. He felt the warmth of her touch, and the taste of her breath and the smell of her scent as she leaned over him and talked to him in a tone of compassion and awe. He could see that she was curious and alarmed by what she saw within him, and he wondered what she now saw in him that made her feel a measure of caution now with him that she did not before.

He looked past her to the buildings and the sky, but not to see structures of steel and wood and glass as before, but lines of energy within them from electricity and the energies of pressures and gravity that affects things that they push and pull against in constant flux. In the sky he saw the waves of the mystic streams that flowed about the world to meet into powerful rivers of eldrich power which make up the lei lines of the planet. He could also see the lines of the gravitational flows of the planet which often flowed with the lei lines, together and yet separate in how they protect the planet that they surround. He saw the different measures of light, of the different wavelengths of energy which came from the far away star, moving to and through them all at different rates to fuel and heal and kill all at the same time. He looked to the side, to those people on the street, and saw how different they were from the super being before him. How dull and drab their energies were, and how nearly non-existent they were when compared to this marvelous creature over him. How weak and pitiful they were when seen next to this amazing powerhouse of energy that caught him high in the sky over this strange new world.

Vladi brought his hand slowly up, and took a look at it through his new vision, and saw the power that now surged and pulsed through him. He could see the lines of the world's streams of mystic power being drawn to him from those flowing eddies and streams of the magic of the Earth, as his new mother sought to feed and sustain him in a way that she had not done for centuries. He turned his hand and shifted his fingers and started to move and mold the lines of energy as he had done for so many centuries upon many different planes.

A new power now existed upon the land, to balance out the scales of nature, which had so far tilted away from the good of the planet. There was now a person to use the sources of magic that this planet provided once again, and people would soon be amazed and awed by the power and abilities that the Earth would provide for this wizard. It was now to be seen how such a power would grow and be utilized by this creature from a different plane, as not all who she gave such power to was able to handle such without going mad and destroying themselves in the process.

Chapter Four - Rivers in the Sky

Like babies learning to walk, wizards when they are first learning to use a new magic source are oft times clumsy. And, due to their powers and abilities while using such powers, are thus hazardous to themselves and others around them. The wizard in black named Vladimire was no exception to this dangerous rule of power acquisition and accustoming.

Earlier he had wondered if it was safe to attempt to try magic because of the concern with how his spells would be affected in this new plane, now it was as if all his spell knowledge was trying to erupt from within him all at once in response to the new stimulus from the magic of the Earth. He opened his mouth to start to warn the goddess over him to remove her hand from his chest and move away from him when his innate self-protection spells reacted to her touch upon him. But, with such spells, there was no time to warn her away as such things occur within a blink of an eye.
"Uuuuuuuuuugggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!," Supergirl groaned as a new explosion erupted from the man underneath her, and she was blasted away from him to sail across the street. She slammed into a office building and broke through the glass windows and didn't stop until she was half way through the building. She shook her long blonde hair free of pieces of debris to clear her ringing head, as she staggered uneasily to her feet. She had never felt such a blow like that in a very long time, if ever. Looking through the tunnel of destruction that she had made, she saw that the man in black was getting to his feet, and looking around himself as if in a daze himself. She saw that this eyes were still glowing silver, and wondered if she was responsible for that strange change in him, and thus had unleashed this power within him.

Supergirl gasped when she saw a truck suddenly appear, and knew that it would hit the man as he was standing in the street and looking the opposite way of traffic and flew out the tunnel to stop the truck before it struck the man, but was drawn up short when a shimmering wall of energy materialized between the man and the truck. The truck slammed into the wall and was immediately brought to a stop, it's massive front end crumpling as it it had struck a stone wall.

Supergirl flew to the door of the truck and looked in at the driver, who was shaken but alright, then looked back to the man who was oblivious of the truck behind him, and now strolling down the street towards the bay. The odd energy wall had flickered out of existence it appeared after the collision, and the superheorine started to worry that there was much more to the mystery of this strange man, and that much of that mystery would be very dangerous. Especially if he got to the more populated parts of the city, like Market Street where he was now heading. She didn't know why he was going that way, but then, she didn't know anything about this man other than his strange ears and spectacular eyes. But, she had to get him to someplace safe before he could let loose with any more of those powerful energy blasts that had knocked her half way through a building!

The wizard was no longer concerned by the blonde goddess as she was no longer around him. He did not know what happened to her or where she went, but he didn't think of that long as he was more concerned about learning more about the streams of energy that he saw in the air. There was more to them then he first realized. He could also see more clearly the auras of energy around these beings that populated this city. He saw that the energy from these people was also feeding these small streams of energy, which made them grow as more people fed the energy streams. Some streams were feeders of magic, and some streams drew magic into them, much like the veins and arteries of a body with blood. He started to follow a stream that was moving down the street towards a large body of water. He could see that these streams had taken form along the paths of the people that move along these streets, though he knew that it could as well be that the streets and people are moving along the path lines of the streams of energy, much like fish following the water of a stream.

Vladimire did not pay any attention to the people or their vehicles beyond a cursory glance at their auras and how they fed the energy of the city, as he walked into the middle of traffic to follow the flow of the mystical lines of power. He wanted to find the 'river' that this little stream of power was feeding, to follow to it's ultimate source. Or, at least to find a nexus of an intersection of several of these energy streams. His attention was concentrated on this one task to the exception of all other stimuli, regardless of his earlier curiosities about the world he found himself upon.

"Noooo!!!" the mage yelled as he felt himself suddenly grabbed from behind and was lifted up into the air by strong feminine hands under his armpits. She was much faster than the earlier truck which his protective spells had stopped, so Supergirl was not blocked from grabbing ahold of the man, who she then turned away from Market Street and headed towards the fairly open spaces of Golden Gate Park.

"Sorry, Mister! But, I have to get you someplace where there aren't too many people around", she spoke to the struggling man as she swooped over the buildings of San Francisco towards the water side park. She held him easily out and ahead of herself, but in a manner so that she could see around him so that she didn't fly him into a bird or phone line or such. But, the man was stronger than she gave credit to, and he was making it harder for her to hang on to unless she was willing to use greater force and thus possibly injure him. And, that was something that she really didn't want to do. She felt badly about his dying earlier, and didn't want to put him through that again, because she was afraid of what he may turn into if he came to life... again.

She held him slightly to the side so that his long black hair would not blow into her face and blind (or rather inconvenience) her, and noted that his arm waving suddenly seemed to be a bit more systematic. At the same time she heard him speaking with his strange language. Not in the loud protest that he had done when she first grabbed him off the street, but now in a more sing-song fashion. She actually thought the way he was speaking was quite enchanting.

"Oh shit..." Supergirl then muttered as she found herself holding a bunch of empty black clothes.

Chapter Five - Help! There's a Naked Man in the Park!

"Oh shit..." Vladi heard behind him as he suddenly found himself standing on a cold beach facing the ocean that he had seen from so far away while in the arms of the flying girl. Now, the water was close enough for it to splash it's spray upon his naked flesh.

The wizard blinked as he looked down at himself. He eyesight had returned to normal, and he was now naked, he saw. He immediately figured that it had to do with the teleportation spell that he had cast upon himself. His vision returned to it's normal state because the spell had taken him out of the strange fugue state that he had been in following the planetary communion that he had partaken in. And, his clothes, he imagined that they were still in the grasp of the flying girl, because they were not a part of this world, or a part of him, and such is the problems that often followed one casting teleportation spells.

The wind was cold as it came off the water, and he slowly turned around to take in the sight of dozens of people taking in the sight of him. They stood gaping, though not as much as his naked state as much as it was a man suddenly appearing out of thin air before them.

The wizard took it all in, looking more closely at these people for the first time. There were males and females, but he could see that on this world coupling wasn't just between males and females, as he saw males coupled together as well as females coupled together. He saw couples with children, and people with strange animals of all different sizes that they led about with lines to collars about their necks. Many of those animals appeared to be rather aggressive, and they certainly were noisy with the differing barking that they made towards him. He could see that some of these animals were very protective of their owners, while others appeared to be rather skittish and were actively trying to run away from him.

Vladimire looked at the people who were slowly moving away from him. He saw that the people were of differing colored skin hues, from pinkish white to dark brown to light brown and olive and yellowish. From the sizes of the people and their differing features, he determined that the world he was on had a sizable population with a diverse genetic pool. Most of the worlds that he had visited had only one or two races that walked the surface of their words, and of those most seemed as close to similar to be almost identical as species. But, this world he could tell was full of diversity. He wondered just how diverse this world was, since he had only witnessed a very very small part of it so far.

He was totally comfortable with his body, and was not afraid of his nakedness, though he was becoming more and more aware that his nakedness was affecting those people around him. He could see that some were shocked, and some were worried, just as there were some that were interested and intrigued. He saw that much of this interest came just as much from the males as from the females looking at him.

The thing that was making him more and more uncomfortable, was that he was not able to understand a word that anyone was saying. The teleportation spell that he had cast worked well enough, so he decided to go ahead and cast his spell of understanding upon himself. A number of people moved back cautiously as he brought up his hands to perform the physical gestures of the spell. He felt the strings of the magical energy of the world and slide them around in the proper form and spoke the words of power that he had discovered were the same no matter where he found himself (since they were for his utilization of his skills and abilities), and in the next moment was able to understand what the people were saying around him.

"What the hell is he doing?"
"Did you see where he came from? I swear that he wasn't there a moment ago!"
"Jesus, the guy has no hair. You think he shaves his body?"
"Shit... he's bald even THERE!"
"Who does that!!??"
"Damn he's hung!"
"Quite drooling, Marg!"
"Stop staring, Bob!"
"Shut up, Fido!!"

He felt somewhat better now that he was able to understand the words that the people were saying. He heard that they were talking to each other in different dialects and tongues then, but his spell was allowing him to understand the speech. It would take a little longer for his own tongue to get used to forming such words, but that came with time, as would coming to understand what such words actually meant.

He raised up his hands with palms out to show the men and women looking at him that he had no weapons, and that he was no threat to them. He knew that he didn't need any physical weapons with his mystical powers or physical skills, but he did not want to alarm them any more than he had so far. This was a world that he wanted to learn more of, and it was nearly impossible to learn anything from fleeing people.

"Yeah, that's a good idea buddy!! Get 'em up!" he then heard to the side, and turned to see a man in a blue uniform walking up purposely towards him. He could see that he wore a similar uniform as those men in blue that the Supergirl had helped, complete with a similar metal badge and objects in a belt about his hips. He also had in his hand one of those strange noisy rods that he had seen those men using in that earlier battle in the street. He could see that the man did not have it pointed directly at him, but had no doubt that the man would bring it to bear on him in an instant if he felt threatened.

"Thank God you're here, Officer!"
"That man's NAKED!"
"I can see that, thank you. Now please go your way, citizens. I will take it from here," the officer stated as he motioned with his free hand for those gawking 'citizens' to move away from Vladi and back to their walks on the beach, which they slowly (and a few with some reluctance) finally did.

"Okay buddy, what's your name, and where are your clothes??"

Vladimire told him the truth, of course. He always did. Not that everyone believed him all the time with what he told them. But, that was the problem of those that disbelieved magic and discounted it's practitioners.

"My name is Vla-dee-myer and Sup-er-gurl has my clothes," the mage told the officer, who was looking suspiciously at the side of his head.

"Now, why would Supergirl have your clothes, Mr Meyer??" the officer asked him, now taking notee of the man's very pale blue eyes while trying not to roll his own. At least it took his attention from his bare naked schlong hanging in the wind! And, was his ears pointed?? He wondered then if this guy was lost from a movie set, and obviously a X-rated set, at that!
